Sea of Plastics in the Future World

The weight of plastics in the sea will outweigh the number of fishes in the sea in near future. Plastic is present everywhere, be it landfills, your kitchen cabinet, public places, the ocean, or even on Mars! We have created this reality for ourselves and our future generation. The world is screaming for solutions for plastic pollution as there is no planet B.

But let's talk about the problem first. Why has plastic contributed so much to the world's overall waste build-up and how has it become the most harmful by-product of the increased consumption pattern of humans.

The problem starts with its demand and habit. Its constant manufacturing will continue to cause harm to the environment. A plastic that is manufactured today will be around for thousands of years. The manufacturing process of plastic releases toxic chemicals that pollute the environment. Every product sold in the market has plastic packaging and consumers mindlessly use plastic products in their daily life. Single-use plastics are commonly used in marketplaces and households. Although there has been an increased awareness in recent times by governments and NGOs and efforts are made for plastic waste management, the road to recovery is long.

Companies are trying to reduce carbon footprint in the environment by associating with organizations and social causes to achieve plastic neutrality. Plastic neutrality can be achieved by removing an equal amount of plastic from the environment that is created by the company's operation. Companies are also taking active steps to reduce plastic use in their supply chain process through customized tools. The purposeful business has a winning game in the future.

On the domestic front, single-use plastic is completely recyclable and can also be replaced with more sustainable options such as glass, ceramics, and paper. The consumption of single-use plastic comes from the convenience and lack of awareness about the environment that we live in. Several steps can be taken to curb this problem such as practicing mindfulness in daily consumption and monitoring the waste generated by your household activities on daily basis. Buying sustainable alternatives that are cost-saving in long run and have a positive impact on the environment.

Making changes is not comfortable and cheap but they have a greater purpose of creating a world that has fresh air, water, and soil for all in the future. Every step counts, and every switch from plastic to non-plastic material adds up to a greater cause. Plastic waste reduction and management require equal efforts from businesses, society, and the government. The solution is to make effort in the right direction.
