3 Easy Ways to Reduce Plastic from Your Life

The production and usage of plastic have been increasing at a rapid rate since it was first invented. It has reached a point where it has become harmful for us and the planet. It’s causing pollution everywhere because we discard it after a single use and the plastic is non-biodegradable. It should be now everyone’s moral duty to become plastic negative, which means to reduce plastic from your life and opt for non-plastic options. Here are 3 ways to reduce plastic from your life:

1. Avoid Single-Use Plastic

Most of the plastic that we use in our daily lives, we only use once before discarding them. This includes polythene bags, plastic wraps, bubble wraps, plastic cups & plates, and straws. It’s recommended that you should reduce their usage as much as possible. For instance, when you go to a grocery store, carry your own bag, be it a cloth bag or a paper bag. Or if you can’t spare a bag like this, buy bags that are repurposed and have the plastic neutral certification.

2. Stop Purchasing Bottled Water

Water is mostly sold in plastic bottles because it’s cheap to manufacture and can be easily discarded. Except, plastic bottles can be easily discarded, but they cannot be properly disposed of. So, continuous discarding plastic has caused pollution on the beaches and the mountains. To avoid further accumulation of plastic in your surroundings, stop purchasing bottled water. Always carry your own water wherever you go. When you’re staying in a hotel while being on a trip, prefer to have your bottle refilled from the hotel itself.

3. Support Organizations Tackling Plastic Pollution

Plastic bottle waste management is not an easy task, yet many NGOs, charities, and other institutions are continuously working on managing plastic waste. You can do your part in reducing plastic pollution by being a volunteer with them. The more we are united in this task, the sooner we can bring plastic pollution under control.

Plastic, at this point, seems to be an inevitable part of our lives as we are dependent on it. But only we can reduce this dependency and make the Earth better inhabitable for us and the generations to come. We all must do our part in reducing plastic pollution.
